What is Person Centered Thinking?
Person Centered Thinking (PCT) is the philosophy behind our services. At its core, PCT is a simple idea: Put individuals first, listen carefully and learn who they are and what they want from life, then work together to set goals, create personalized plans, and put them into practice. Being person centered also means always treating others with dignity and respect. PCT recognizes the right of individuals to make informed choices and to take responsibility for those choices and the related risks. When we use PCT, we strive to build on the strengths, gifts, talents, skills, and contributions of every individual.
Remarkable & Centered Supports, LLC will help each individual develop and write their own Person-Centered plan. We make a promise to listen to your words and help you find a balance of What Is Important To and Important For.
In Person-Centered thinking What is Important To, in your own words, that brings you happiness, joy, and fulfillment. We will focus on helping you identify goals and dreams that you want to accomplish and develop action steps towards achieving each goal. What Is Important For, refers to health and safety and what that means to you on your own terms, and being a valued member of your community. Our approach is assisting in finding a healthy balance of things that bring you happiness as well as staying healthy, safe, and being a part of the community.
We offer Person-Centered Thinking Training to other providers, their employees, and other community members to help them gain the understanding needed to support people in a Person-Centered way. Person Centered Thinking is a training recommended for everyone involved in supporting people with developmental disabilities. Participants will develop skills in person-centered thinking through a series of discussions, applied stories, and guided exercises.
One-page descriptions can help others who support someone understand how important just a little information about a person can be. A one-page description must always capture three key requirements that must be included. Those 3 key items are:
•What others like about the person
•What’s Important TO the person
•How to support the person
